OFF Rte 66 and Camping NM style in Carlsbad

So we deviate off Rte 66 in Santa Rosa and head south on I 285 for several hours of detour to take in Carlsbad Caverns tomorrow.

We drove hours of flat, dry, HOT roads…did I say FLAT! That little plume that looks like smoke is actually dust!High was tipping 100 and now at almost 7 pm we’re enjoying a warm 94!!!!

If you ever wanted to know what a pistachio grove looked like, here you go!

Asking for a lot with trees is relative!!!! Beautiful cacti and a wide pine tree is perfect with this great patio! The state park we passed didn’t have ONE tree so we are grateful for our personal greenery!

Onward to Carlsbad Caverns!

Some things are just old….and BEAUTIFUL

Like: Totem Pole Park and the Fiddle house that has 400 hard carved fiddles to show the beauty of the wood grains!

Like: 1939 Rock Cafe with a still operating 80 year old Wolf Stove with just two control knobs and made out of hand placed rocks

Like: A 1898 restored round barn with a gorgeous dance and event hall in the rafters

Like: A 1933 3/4 mile long Pony Bridge that sports 38 small ‘pony’ trusses on the S Canadian River

Like: The amazing Yukon’s Best Flour Mill

Like: The BEST parts of Rte 66 from the 1930’s.

ENJOY THIS PICTOGRAM!

Cut the Corner of Kansas on Route 66

Route 66 only covers 16 miles in Kansas, but those few miles pack a wallup!

First there’s Galena with Kan-o-Tex gas station featuring featuring Tow Tater, the inspiration for the ‘Mater from CARS.

Then there’s Field of Dreams

And my favorite bridge, the Marsh Rainbow Arch Bridge!

Kansas used all it’s Route 66 real estate!

Pic of Galena is for you, Vickie🥰
